Teaching a child to read is not an easy task. It requires a lot of thought and effort. You will have to buy easy to read books which will include pictures as well as words. This will make reading an interesting task for the child. Here are some tips on how you can help your child read:

READ SLOWLY

You must read slowly so that your child can comprehend what is being read. You must not use flash cards but you must include certain phrases and words. Explain things in a manner where they can imagine what is being said this will make the task of learning something they will look forward to at any moment or time. You can read around 2-3 books a day if time permits even more. Try to set a goal of 20 minutes or so.

ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE

You must not forget to ask questions. This will encourage interaction as well comprehension of the matter read. He or she will be able to understand the phonetic sounds used in the text. Those who can read will be able to understand much better if you do foster asking questions.  Questions like Do you see the cat? Do you see the rat? Ask him or her to make sounds regarding the animals in the book.

BECOME A READING ENIGMA

Your child will like to learn to more if you too become a good reading example. If you are someone who is not good at reading and writing then your child will not follow suit in learning to read. Try to read a cookbook or even an interesting magazine to keep your child interested. Let your son or daughter read statements out loud.

HELP HIM OR HER TO IDENTIFY WORDS

You must help your child read and understand words. You can even paste them on a wall or have them in a big wooden letters which you child can see and read easily.  Try to have a white board where your child can write the words and read them slowly as possible.

Keep in mind that teaching your child to read is not an easy task if you haven’t planned ahead for it.  Ask your friends and family members for help on the matter if you are concerned about how you can read to your kids.  Attend a reading seminar in a school or library close by.  This will help you figure out how to read better.
